Letters and messages from the chief commissioner: March 28, 2008
Farewell letter from the chief commissioner
For fourteen years I have had the challenge and pleasure of serving the citizens of Alberta as Chief Commissioner of the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission. The work has been demanding and deeply interesting, and the people I have worked with have been truly inspirational to me. Now, however, I have decided that it is time for me to retire and engage in other endeavours.
It has been my very real privilege to have worked with so many fine Commissioners and with Commission staff in both Calgary and Edmonton. The commitment to excellence demonstrated by these men and women in the performance of their duties, their unbridled devotion to service and their passion for ensuring fair treatment of others has been truly exemplary.
I also salute the countless Albertans who, in small and big ways, are making critically important contributions to creating welcoming and inclusive communities and workplaces. For these visionary Albertans racism and discrimination have no place in our province.
Although I am saddened that such an important part of my working life has come to an end, I will always remember my involvement in such an engaging career and the joy of working with so many skilful competent colleagues. I do not expect to go off into the sunset unless it is for some well directed adventure.
I hope to find a new activity to pursue and it is with heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to all I will take my leave.
Charlach Mackintosh
Chief Commissioner
