Public workshops

The public workshops are full-day sessions that will provide an overview of Alberta's human rights legislation, in addition to covering three main topics: "Respectful and Inclusive Workplaces," "Preventing Harassment in the Workplace" and "Duty to Accommodate."
"Respectful and Inclusive Workplaces" will help participants to:
- understand the employer's responsibility under current human rights legislation,
- understand the need to create a respectful and inclusive workplace, and
- develop strategies to create a respectful and inclusive environment for all employees.
"Preventing Harassment in the Workplace" will help participants understand:
- different types of harassment,
- the impact of harassment on the work environment,
- employer liability and responsibility in dealing with harassment, and
- how to create a respectful work environment free of harassment.
"Duty to Accommodate" will enable participants to:
- gain an understanding of the duty to accommodate and its application to the grounds protected under Alberta's human rights legislation,
- respond to requests for accommodation,
- understand the concept of undue hardship, and
- create inclusive workplaces that provide accommodation.
These workshops are available to the public and are particularly recommended for:
- business owners,
- executives, managers and supervisors,
- human resource specialists,
- union representatives, and
- anyone interested in learning more about human rights in the workplace.
The Human Resources Institute of Alberta has approved a maximum of 10 points towards the recertification of the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation when attending a full day workshop.
Winter 2012 workshop schedule
The full-day Human Rights in the Workplace public workshops, intended for managers, supervisors, team leaders, human resource professionals, union leaders, and small business owners, will provide participants with
- an overview of Alberta's human rights legislation,
- information from the workshop module Duty to accommodate, and
- an understanding of harassment in the workplace and strategies to prevent such harassment.
The full-day workshops will also provide participants with an understanding of respectful and inclusive workplaces and strategies to create such a workplace.

Fee: The workshop fee is $125.00 plus GST, totaling $131.25. Lunch is included.
Calgary

Lethbridge
Date: February 29, 2012
