Providing benefits, leave and accommodation
The Alberta Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination in all aspects of employment. The AHR Act prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religious beliefs, gender, age, physical disability, mental disability, marital status, family status, source of income and sexual orientation. You can read more about the protected grounds. An employer cannot discriminate when providing employment benefits and leave to employees. Employers are also required to accommodate employees to the point of undue hardship.
