Access to information and protection of privacy
Personal information collected, used or disclosed by employers should be handled in a sensitive matter. Employers are required to comply with human rights law as well as privacy law.
Privacy legislation deals with the collection, retention, use and disclosure of personal information.
The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner in Alberta was created in 1995 and is responsible for administration of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP Act), the Health Information Act (HIA) and the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
