Announcing a new publication
for Albertans who are becoming parents

The Commission has co-produced a new publication for working adoptive and birth parents-to-be who live in Alberta.

Becoming a Parent in Alberta: What you need to know about human rights, maternity and parental leave, and benefits is available at no charge in English and French.

The attractive 63-page booklet covers:

  • working and expecting: human rights related to pregnancy and childbirth
  • time away from work: maternity and parental leave and benefits
  • returning to work: ending maternity and parental leave and benefits
  • where to get more information

It also includes a "To Do" checklist that will be useful to parents-to-be who are planning a leave from work and applying for Employment Insurance benefits.

Becoming a Parent in Alberta is a joint venture of the Commission, Alberta Human Resources and Employment, and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. This one-stop resource provides comprehensive information from all three organizations.
