City of Calgary agrees to sign onto the Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination (CMARD)
The City of Calgary Council has unanimously approved the City's support of signing onto the Canadian Commission for UNESCO's Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination Declaration. In agreeing to sign onto the declaration, the City demonstrated its clear commitment to moving forward with an action plan that addresses the 10 commitments for combating racism and discrimination. Council agreed to hold a formal signing ceremony later this year. See item 10, page 18 of the City of Calgary Council July 24, 2006 minutes.

Celebrate Alberta Heritage Day on August 7!
From our province's industries to our arts sector to our Aboriginal communities and ethnic diversity, Alberta has much to be proud of, and much to offer! Alberta Heritage Day recognizes and celebrates the unique culture of our province. It is observed annually on the first Monday of August.
The Alberta government released an information bulletin today, inviting Albertans to renew their interest in learning about our province, and to take time to discover their own personal heritage.
Alberta has 18 cultural facilities and historic sites that commemorate our past, and make history come alive for Albertans and visitors. Some of these sites have ties to our province's ethnic communities. Read about the sites.
